" Well begun is half done " is a proverb suitable for students preparation and academic success.

Well begun is possible when a clear cut plan and it's implementation in the context of academic success  is happening. 

Let's understand this with one practical example.  Periodic test or cycle tests are one month away and  students who know the syllabus in advance start making notes and learning them in advance. On the other hand there are some students who are unaware of the syllabus because they were absent in the previous week and there is no written information about syllabus available in the school almanac, in this case if the student is sincere will connect with the  classmates regular in school will start preparation after getting the syllabus from them ( fellow students who were present) in school. 

This gives a head start or advantage in terms of available time in disposal for the academic preparation. 

This is why we consider things a better  way when sufficient time is available.
