New education policy 2020 was started for the following purpose :

 To make education holistic 

To make education multidisciplinary 

To make early childhood care and education or ECCE integrate with nutrition 

Change from earlier 10+ 2 education system to 5+3+3+4 education system 

Education system earlier was academic centric and less focus was given to increasing employability skills and vocational skills at CBSE board level. ITI or industrial technical institute existed for skills level training  but at CBSE academic level skills started as a broader footprint of Skill India initiative.

Holistic education purpose is to focus on overall growth of children by providing them scope in 

Intellectual, artistic,physical  ,mental , emotional and academic areas.

In a vast country like India integration of child care with early education was long felt so NEP 2020 twisted it to include ECCE so that good health of children  become priority and school Gross enrollment rate or GER is  also maintained. 

What are the subjects included in middle school level skills 

The basic idea of certain skills inclusion in middle school level education system is to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, along with vocational skills and internships.  Emphasize is given to the integration of art, musical education, and life skills into the curriculum.
